Starlink Install, Speed Test, and Review

Installing SpaceX’s Starlink with the volcano roof mount. Running speed tests and comparing Starlink to Telus Smart Hub. Rural internet solution!

𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐩: "a downward hanging loop in a line that runs to a building"
A very important step that was missed and pointed out in the comments is using a drip loop. I should have ran the line below the wall penetration, then back up before entering the wall. This will allow any water that might travel down the line to drip to the ground and not direct it towards the wall. See 7:34 for an example of a drip loop.

your speed test isn't legit - because you didn't go into your windows' network settings, and hit "reset network". I bet if you did that alone, your Telus speeds would shoot to 58-100mbps - so, this test ISN'T legit at all.

7:56 You should put a drip loop (have the cable run below the hole and then turn back up and then into the hole) where your cable enters the home. The way it goes in now, the water will eventually find a way to follow the cable into the house (silicone isnt a perfect seal). Great Video though!

I am a mere 5 minutes away from the largest Toyota plant in the world here in Georgetown, Ky and yet there is no internet service here with the nearest ISP, Spectrum. So this is not just a problem for people in the country. My subdivision has been here for years, but they clearly have no interest in expanding. I think they know it is a dead end road because the competition will be so much better (Starlink), so expansion is seen as a waste of money. All the more reason for me to go ahead and make the jump to get a satellite. Spectrum offers service to most of Georgetown, but just not if you're in a "new" neighborhood built in the last ten years.

Hey, as someone that had a house with a metal roof in New Mexico, make sure you get a good installer. If not done correctly, a metal roof can be far worse than a shingle roof if it is damaged via winds. And upgrade to the thicker stuff if given a chance. I can’t remember the details of the roof we replaced our old metal roof with but the thicker stuff made a world of difference.

Very nice. Yet, with such strong wind, and to have a stable signal, I wouldn't install the dish on the roof. To reduce the wind effect, I would build a small concrete box and probably unbreakable glass on top of it. If the top of the concrete box affects the signal, I would jus leave it open. This protects the dish and its base against vibrations, increases its lifetime, and boosts the signal in stormy weather.

So do you have any paper work or anything that can help out all the people that have paid a deposit? I believe that there are scammers out there posing a website like Starlink. First, POE stands for Power Over Ethernet, not Power Over Internet. Second, what do your issues with not having enough cable to reach the Starlink have to with helping anyone else installing their Starlink? Such video posted by well intended but lightly experienced folks doesn't just confuses the issue. Consider pulling and re-editing your video to correct the errors and cut right to the meat. ;> On the plus side, thank you SO MUCH for not adding music to your presentation! +1 for that. :> By the way, when I see the word "PRO" connected to DIY it is usually a description of what the person strives to be, rather than what they are. Again... ;>

Appreciate the effort, time and money spent. Thank you brother ! However, this isn't sat tv so no need to make the dish immobilised that much. Nr. 2 ... either use a solid concrete bolt or a plastic plug with buling adhesive (silicone if nothing else available), not just a screw. This will make great trouble in future as moisture and rain drops follow the cable, and winds fatigue pulls cable a bit of inch from dish mounting every day. This can lead to mould indoors. Anyway... good video, thank you for the effort, time and money spent. Live long and prosper 🖖
